Bamboo Growth and Usage

It is a common misconception that Bamboo is a tree, but it is actually a grass. They were commonly found in the far Eastern region of Asia. Bamboo can grow at an amazing rate: about 24 inches a day depending on the richness of its soil. Bamboo also bares heavy culture influence from Far-East Asia because of its extensive use in that region from building materials to food sources. However, Bamboo actually has a wide distribution around the globe even in part of Mid-Atlantic United States. Bamboo floors were primarily constructed in two ways: horizontal construction and vertical construction.

Bamboo Floors

Colors

When bamboo floor were first introduced, they usually come in natural or carbonized color. The natural bamboo strips are light brown. Carbonized color is a result of “carbonized process”, which turns bamboo floors to a naturally dark brown color through heating or boiling processes. Nowadays, as more bamboo floor product increased on the market, more and more colors were offered.

Horizontal and Vertical Construction

Vertical construction consists of many pieces of vertical bamboo pieces glued together to form one plank. Horizontal construction typically consists of 3 layered of bamboo pieces glued together to form one plank.
